Midnight Departure from Sharm El Sheikh

The Ascent: Camel Path or Steps of Penitence

Led by a professional **Bedouin mountain guide**, begin the 7km trek. Most guests choose the wider **Camel Path** for a gradual ascent, but the adventurous can tackle the **3,750 "Steps of Penitence."** Along the way, there are small huts to rest and enjoy traditional Bedouin tea. The hike takes roughly 3 hours to reach the summit plateau.

Sunrise at Jabal Musa Summit

Reach the **2,285-meter peak** of Mount Moses. As dawn breaks, witness a spectacular **Sinai sunrise**, illuminating the jagged granite peaks in shades of gold and purple. This is the biblical site where Moses is said to have received the **Ten Commandments**. Enjoy plenty of time for photography and meditation before descending.

After descending, explore one of the world's oldest working Christian monasteries. The hike is moderately demanding. It involves a 2.5 to 3-hour ascent. Most of the trail follows a wide, winding path, but the final 750 "Steps of Penitence" to the summit are steep and made of stone. For those with limited mobility, Bedouin camel rentals are available to carry you up to the start of the final steps.

What is the dress code for St. Catherine Monastery?

As a UNESCO World Heritage site and active Greek Orthodox monastery, strict modesty is required. Both men and women must cover their shoulders and knees. Since it is freezing at the summit (often 0°C to 5°C) but warm in the monastery, we recommend wearing zip-off hiking pants or carrying a sarong/scarf in your backpack.

What are the "Must-Bring" items for this trip?

You must bring your original physical passport for the Egyptian police checkpoints along the Sinai road. Additionally, bring: a heavy jacket, gloves, a warm hat, sturdy trainers/boots, and small cash (LE or USD) for the Bedouin cafes on the mountain that sell snacks and blanket rentals.
